The Plants Production & Marketing Board of Israel was established in 2004 in order to assist individual farmers in the promotion of important issues and projects on a macro scale. As a nonpartisan entity, the Board acts for the betterment of the agricultural industry as a whole. Its day to day activities include helping to kickstart pioneering R&D projects in pest control and improved strains development, as well assisting farmers claim damages for catastrophic weather conditions, and the like.
The current Board is the result of the unification of earlier boards representing the vegetables, fruit, citrus and olives sectors. It comprises representatives from all sectors related to fruits and vegetables in Israel’s economy, including elected growers, local wholesalers, exporters, government officials, and representatives from the Israel Consumer Council.
